Our Story

About Counterculture Magazine

Established in 2021, Counterculture Magazine is the University of Richmond's first and only student-led publication to focus exclusively on social justice issues. At Counterculture, we strive to educate our readers on issues affecting the University of Richmond community and abroad, as well as provide a platform for students to share their deepest concerns about the turbulent state of the world.

Mission

Too often, conversations about social justice at U of R are limited to the classroom or small, intimate discussions. The mission of Counterculture is to make discussing social justice a permanent fixture of campus culture.

Purpose

Much of our activism and awareness regarding social justice is limited to social media— but it doesn't have to be. The purpose of Counterculture is to provide students with a platform to discuss relevant, timely social justice issues that deserve more of our attention. If you're looking for a place to speak out against racism, sexism, homophobia, imperialism, capitalism, and xenophobia, Counterculture is for you.
